We use a similar "plastic hemp" line.

On my own boat I also have gaskets like this, but made out of bits of old polyester mooring warp so not quite as olde-worlde looking :-)

PeteAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8814931629250831543.post-16454425620774661382011-02-07T21:12:12.297-05:002011-02-07T21:12:12.297-05:00Cool! I still have it and use it once in a great while today. I think I'll make one with the hollow groove in it just to try it out.

I have always whipped the rope ends and still whip the ends of the 'plastic' lines today. I'll try the 'sailmakers whip' next time. Have not seed it before.

I enjoy your blog very much.

Thanks.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8814931629250831543.post-34405662525270203112010-08-11T20:00:21.907-04:002010-08-11T20:00:21.907-04:00Hi Scott,

There's a Turkish company that is building real gold-platers.

No FL marina has charged me for the bowsprit, yet. They ask how long, I say 23'. Maybe they just like the boat? :-)

Re: the Montgomery 17... you can't go wrong with any Lyle Hess boat. I'm lusting after a Montgomery 17 which I'd be able to trailer all over the place and yet be pretty economical. Although there is a really old Blue Moon(the original one and free) but is probably a real rot bucket. Then there's the one for sale in Maine for $78k. Not to mention high moorage costs for that bowsprit and boomkin!
Anyhow, enjoying your posts. ScottAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
