I ...Hi, I am also glad you are back with this post. I just put primer on the transom of my boat and then I realised it is much to uneven to carry on painting. I did not bother to remove the primer just sanded it and started fairing with epoxy and microballoons. But the day will come I can use a heatgun which I bought some time ago and using it for removing old paint of doors as a practise run for the boat. Unfortunately it was a cheap 30 euros electric gun and it went dead after 2 doors. With your input I know now what do do in the future.
